Working with Photoshop and Illustrator, or pencils and paint, I conceptualise illustrations from the initial idea through to end product, including full character development.

CHILDREN’S BOOK: THE LEGEND AND THE LIE
MEDIA:
PENCIL AND PHOTOSHOP

The Legend and the Lie is my first self published book for young adults, and has been through a professional editorial process, both structurally and grammatically. Alongside are images that I created to assist with story development, and to compliment various scenes from the book. The first image shows a sketch used in planning the character of a desert dwelling dragon. The remaining images were composed from numerous stock photos that were cropped, merged and significantly altered in Photoshop. This was achieved using various tools, such as Puppet and Perspective Warp, as well as by altering hue, brightness and colour balance, etc, as required.

CHILDREN’S BOOK: MISSY & ME DISCOVER A RHINO
MEDIA:
PENCIL AND PHOTOSHOP

This title, my first Children’s book, is designed to be the first in a series. Loosely based on the personalities of my own children, these two siblings will share a variety of exciting adventures, each conveying a primary theme - such as caring for our planet, or relating to our peers in a healthy manner.

All artwork starts as a sketch, with the final image being completed in Photoshop using a variety of brushes and effects. This project entailed more than improving my digital painting skills. Each character had to be clearly mapped in order to ensure consistency, vibrancy and intrigue. The manuscript driving the imagery was worked and re-worked until right.

CHILDREN’S BOOK: BERNARD BROWN & THE GREAT BIG THING
MEDIA: PENCIL AND PHOTOSHOP

In this children’s title, also part of the Missy and Me series, a somewhat wacky inventor gets carried away and creates a machine that he hopes will solve all problems. Well, it certainly solves many problems, but not in the way he anticipated.

As with the title above, all artwork starts as a sketch, either in pencil or digital, with the final image being completed in Photoshop. This story and its accompanying characters were developed in order to ensure that the artwork style of the series could be successfully applied across different scenarious.

experimental: THE green realm warrior
MEDIA:

This image was purely experimental and fun, emanating out of my love of insects, and my son’s current fascination with history and soldiers. I decided to combine these two areas of interest and see what emerged, knowing that there would always be the possibility of creating a surrounding kingdom and accompanying story. Again, all artwork starts as a sketch and is finally rendered in Photoshop.
