Whether it’s for web or print, I offer conceptual design services that take a project from idea to product, including print management, copy editing, ISBN registration, and HTML coding where required.
BOOK: RANDOM LIVES
CLIENT: ROBERT JACKSON
SOFTWARE: PHOTOSHOP AND INDESIGN
SKILLS: EDITING, DESIGN, TYPESETTING, isbn REGISTRATION
Random Lives is a philosophical book that takes a look at the deeper questions of life.
I was first asked to edit the manuscript, ensuring that the character’s “voices“ were appropriate and consistent, that grammatical errors were removed, and that it would remain engaging throughout. I then designed the jacket and chapter headers, and typeset the inner pages. Once complete, I managed the Neilsen ISBN acquisition and barcode generation.
BOOK: THE LEGEND AND & the LIE
CLIENT: MYSELF
SOFTWARE: PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR, INDESIGN
SKILLS: CHARACTER FORMATION, writing, DESIGN, TYPESETTING, eBOOK CREATION & ISBN REGISTRATION
The Legend and the Lie was my first self-written book. It’s an adventure packed fantasy for young adults, with Rosanne Catalano as the editor.
First, I created the characters and mapped the storyline in a scrapbook. Then came the task of writing draft after draft of the manuscript. Once complete, the cover was composed in Photoshop from many stock images, each carefully manipulated. The inners were then designed and typeset in InDesign. And, apart from the hardcopy, I also created an ebook version.
BOOK: THE WAY OF LAMENT
CLIENT: INSIGHT FOR LIVING
SOFTWARE: ADOBE PHOTOSHOP AND INDESIGN
SKILLS: DESIGN, TYPESETTING, ISBN REGISTRATION, PRINT MANAGEMENT & eBOOK CREATION
The Way of Lament is a guide to processing grief, written by Dr Terry Boyle, from the publisher Insight for Living.
My task was to read the copy and then propose a number of cover and inner pages design possibilities. Once the preferred options were chosen, I completed the final cover, typeset the inners, purchased the ISBN, managed the printing, and created an ebook version.
CLIENT: INSIGHT FOR LIVING
SOFTWARE: PHOTOSHOP, ILLUSTRATOR AND INDESIGN
SKILLS: JACKET AND INNERS DESIGN, TYPESETTING, AND PRINT MANAGEMENT
Insights was the monthly mini-magazine of the Christian publisher, Insight for Living. Insight for Living is based in Plano, Texas, but had a branch in the UK as well as numerous other countries. My role was to pursue the authors for their articles, read them, and then design the cover and inners accordingly so as to reach the target market. Once design and amends were complete and approved, I then managed the print cycle, from sending artwork, to proof sign-off and delivery.
CLIENT: INSIGHT FOR LIVING
SOFTWARE: PHOTOSHOP AND INDESIGN
SKILLS: DESIGN, LAYOUT AND PRINT MANAGEMENT
Insight for Living, the publisher as described above, produced a yearly calendar. I would design the UK version thereof, either working off the US proposal, or by creating our own local product from beginning to end. Once the final was amended and signed-off, I managed the print cycle from sending the artwork, to proof approval and delivery.
CLIENT: INSIGHT FOR LIVING
SOFTWARE: PHOTOSHOP AND ILLUSTRATOR
SKILLS: DESIGN, HTML, CSS
Insight for Living UK, as above, required numerous website banners, Constant Contact email images, and app graphics. These were produced on a monthly basis, and usually promoted newly released books, ebooks and MP3s. As well as producing the graphics for the Constant Contact emails, I also developed various unique email templates for the company using CSS and HTML.
